The Official ‘stuff’
Sorry, but we’re not able to refund entry fees. It’s to do with insurance, we still have to pay to insure you (your race number) even if you’re not actually there.
The race is run under the licence of the Association of Running Clubs
Those aged 11 and over can enter the 5k. You have to be 15 or older to enter the 10k. There’s no upper age limit, if you’re up for it, we’ll cheer you all the way.
As above – if you think you can do it, we’ll do whatever we can to support you. However, the race isn’t suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs due to steep, muddy, uneven paths and stiles. Do get in touch if you have any specific requirements or to find out more about the course.
The Frieth Hilly is a challenging 10k and 5k running race along winding paths through dappled woodland and wildflower meadows. It’s not called the ‘Hilly’ for nothing, but any breath left at the top will be taken away by the scenery. The race passes over private land in the Hambleden valley, giving Frieth Hilly runners access to secret corners of the Chilterns with incredible, exclusive views.
Warm welcome and great atmosphere
The Frieth Hilly is known for the warmth of its welcome (and it’s hills). The whole school and villagers of Frieth turn out to cheer on the runners and the local vicar blesses the race and runners at the start line. We have quirky commentators entertaining the crowds and welcoming back the runners, teas and homemade cakes, BBQ stall, massages, cheery marshals, children’s entertainment, a finishers medal and goodies for you to take home.
We love to see children over 11 yrs old entering the 5k. There are plenty of marshals to cheer them on and ensure their safety. Weather permitting, there are fun activities for the kids too – everyone is welcome.
In previous years we have run a great creche (run by fully qualified staff) at the school. At this stage we are working to see if we are able to offer this service again.
Frieth Hilly is a Registered Charity. All funds raised go towards Frieth CEC School. Thank you for your help and support.
Runners Love This Race…
Of the runners who have provided feedback on Runner’s World website, 92% of runners said they would do the race again and comments posted about the race on Runner’s World site include:
- From the very beginning you are aware that this race means a lot to the little local school. All the children have done artwork, or poems to send you off. All their mums have baked cakes ready for your return. The vicar blesses your endeavours and the Lord of the Manor runs as sweeper. And all through the best of Chiltern countryside. Oh yes there is a hill, but it is so pretty you’d hardly notice! Honest!
- The course is definitely challenging but the marshals really help with their big smiles and encouragement. It’s also the only race I do where the runners receive a blessing (and the vicar has a great sense of humour).
- Great race, amazing location, run very efficiently with a wonderfully English village feel to it. The support during the race was wonderful and the bacon butties afterwards were heaven sent, great scenery but prepare for a couple of climbs.

Year on year we have great prizes on offer – it pays to run fast but it’s the taking part that counts.
See you on the 7th October!
